Mercer Named In The Times Top 50 Employers For Women

  • 2017 list recognises UK employers leading on gender diversity
  • Mercer included in supplement published with today’s Times

Mercer, a global consulting leader in advancing health, wealth and career, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies (NYSE: MMC), has been recognised for their leadership on workplace gender equality by being named in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2017. The Times Top 50 Employers for Women is published in partnership with Business in the Community (BITC) - the Prince’s Responsible Business Network - as part of the charity’s Responsible Business Week.

The unranked list acknowledges UK employers that are making gender equality a key part of their business strategy, with consistent commitment to creating inclusive workplace cultures and progressing women in the workplace, across all levels of their organisation.

In 2014 Mercer created a three-year diversity and inclusion strategy and action plan, covering elements such as gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disabilities, and race and ethnicity. In 2015, Mercer introduced targets to work towards a minimum of 40% female participation in senior UK roles by 2020. Mercer’s UK Board is currently made up of five women and two men, including a female CEO and female Chair, demonstrating the company’s commitment to gender equality and diversity.

At Mercer we strongly believe that everyone should have equal access to opportunities for development and advancement and we recognise that there are business benefits and positive outcomes of having employees from different backgrounds and life experiences. It’s extremely important to us to be an inclusive workforce that promotes and strives for gender equality,” said Fiona Dunsire, Mercer’s UK CEO. “I am proud to work at Mercer and be part of the great work we are doing to support all of our employees. As a global consulting firm specialising in talent management, it is important to us to promote gender equality not only internally, but to also set an example for our clients.”

I am delighted that Mercer has been named among the Top 50 Employers for Women,” said Dr Siobhan Martin, Mercer’s UK HR Director. “We are constantly working to challenge ourselves on how we can be inclusive of all, and to provide appropriate workplace initiatives to help women at every level, this includes our returners plan to support those who have been out of the workplace for an extended period. At Mercer we want to enable the best possible work/life balance, which is why we offer employees flexible working options and provide training for line-managers that ensures all employees are supportive of improving diversity and inclusion in the workplace.”

Kathryn Nawrockyi, Gender Equality Director, BITC, said, “Well done to Mercer on being named in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2017 – the process was highly competitive so they should be very proud of their success. Their efforts are increasing understanding of the barriers to equality that women face at work, and I hope other employers will follow their lead.
